Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center Utilizes New Abbott Leadless Pacemaker System for Treatment of Certain Abnormal Heart Rhythms

The Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center team implanted the leadless pacemaker developed by Abbott Laboratories, Inc.

Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center is pleased to now offer Abbott’s new Aveir VR leadless pacemaker – the world’s only leadless pacemaker designed to be retrieved.

Like other leadless pacemakers, Aveir VR does not require insulated wires – known as cardiac leads – that deliver the electrical energy to the heart. Instead, the device is implanted directly into the heart’s right lower chamber using a minimally invasive procedure.

“The Aveir VR leadless pacemaker provides a new and exciting option to assist in the treatment of patients with certain abnormal health rhythms,” said Dr. Salam Sbaity, Electrophysiologist at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center. “This will help us continue to offer the best standard of care to patients and allows our physicians to concentrate on delivering quality care.”

What sets this innovative option apart, however, is Aveir VR leadless pacemaker’s impressive battery life that is up to two times longer than existing leadless options, as well as its unique mapping capability that allows clinicians to measure electric signals to assess the correct placement of the device before final fixation within the heart.

Additionally, the pacemaker is designed to be enabled by future software to support dual-chamber pacing in the future upon regulatory approval.

“We are excited to offer Abbott’s new technology. We recognize and thank our dedicated heart and vascular team for improving the heart health of the communities we serve, one patient at a time,” said Dr. Bradford Warden, Executive Director and Interventional Cardiologist at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center.
