Seventeen-year-old pediatric patient, Jamea Reese, had been living with severe hypertension caused by complications from diabetes, kidney failure, and a stroke. She had been hospitalized for over a year at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and with such complicated health conditions for a pediatric patient, was running out of options for treatment. Luckily, just about 80 miles down I-79 at Mon Health Medical Center, was cardiologist Dr. Wissam Gharib, an expert in renal denervation (RDN), which was just the right procedure to treat Jamea’s condition.

Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center at Mon Health Medical Center is one of three hospitals in the nation to be visited by an international team from Otsuka Medical Devices and Recor Medical to discuss its success with the renal denervation (RDN) procedure for treating high blood pressure. Representatives from Otsuka Medical Devices in Japan, the parent company of Recor Medical, visited Cleveland Clinic and Henry Ford Hospital before visiting Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown on Thursday, Sept. 12.
