Community Outreach

Mon Health Medical Center 2020 Community Health Needs Assessment

Mon Health System contributes to community wellness and well-being beyond our company walls. Employees throughout the health system provide service to many programs through volunteer efforts or as part of their job responsibilities.

Health Fair is our premier community outreach effort. A tradition for more than 35 years, the community responds enthusiastically to the low-cost (or free) diagnostic testing and education. Every company within Mon Health System participates with information about their services, and most clinical departments within Mon Health Medical Center offer health testing. Several of our physicians and their offices participate and so do many health-related non-profit organizations.

The LifeStride Walking Program is a free, supervised walking group designed to emphasize cardiovascular conditioning.

The Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Awareness and Early Detection Project was started October 1992. It was funded by Zelda’s sisters who made a generous donation to The Foundation of Mon General to create the Cancer Awareness and Early Detection Project in her honor. Since its inception, the program has provided low cost cancer screenings and cancer information to the residents of Morgantown and the surrounding region, including Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screenings and skin cancer screenings.

Mon Health System is the presenting sponsor for Girls on the Run of North Central West Virginia, which combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training – all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
