Meckel's Diverticulum Imaging

Planning ahead:

  • You may not have barium within 48 hours before this exam.
  • You will have to take a medication, which will be prescribed by your physician, for two days before this exam.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke anything for 12 hours before this exam.
  • Arrive at the hospital 30 minutes before your exam is scheduled. Ask the scheduler what time that is.

Bring to the hospital when you come for your test:

  • Complete list of medications you are currently taking – name and dosage for each medication, and when you take it.
  • Written physician’s order for the test.

On the day of the test:

  • Come in through the main entrance of Mon Health Medical Center, then down the hallway to the Radiology Services registration desk.
  • Plan to be at the hospital for at least one hour.

During the test:

  • You will have an IV started, then you will lie flat on your back on a table for imaging.
