Cardiac Procedures

We offer the latest techniques and innovative treatments for various heart conditions:

Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)

  • WATCHMAN® Left Atrial Appendage Closure Implant – reduces stroke risk and long-term risk of bleeding.
  • Percutaneous Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale – a minimally invasive procedure to close a hole in the heart wall that reduces the risk of stroke.
  • Atrial Septal Defect Closure – ASD closure involves implanting a device that opens and expands to straddle each side of the hole to stop abnormal flow of blood between the two atria chambers of the heart.
  • Carotid Stent/Carotid Endarterectomy – Surgical procedures to open or clean the carotid artery for stroke prevention.
  • Percutaneous Treatment – A non-surgical procedure used to treat narrowing (stenosis) of the coronary arteries of the heart found in coronary artery disease.

Syncope

  • Hypotension – Tilt table test to measure how blood pressure and heart rate respond to the force of gravity.
  • Arrhythmia (SVT, Afib, V-Tach) – Implantable loop recorder; EP (electrophysiology) study to measure the electrical activity of the heart and diagnose arrhythmia; and EP ablation, a minimally invasive procedure to treat some types of arrhythmia.
  • Aortic Stenosis – Mon Health is the first hospital in Northern West Virginia to offer TAVR (transcutaneous aortic valve replacement), a minimally-invasive approach to aortic valve replacement without opening the chest.

Peripheral Vascular Disease

  • Claudication – Mon Health offers a variety of tests and procedures such as peripheral angiogram, peripheral angioplasty, endarterectomy and stent to help physicians find narrowed or blocked areas in one or more of the arteries that supply blood to the legs.

Valvular Disease

  • Aortic stenosis – TAVR for aortic valve replacement. • Mitral Regurgitation – Mon Health offers a variety of mitral valve therapies depending on the underlying pathology of the patient.

Heart Failure

  • CardioMEMS for recurrent or difficult to control congestive heart failure – Through CardioMEMS, Mon Health specialists can monitor a patient's heart failure symptoms, without the patient leaving home.
  • We also optimize medical therapy with concurrence treatment of underlying ischemic disease or changes to the small blood vessels in the brain.

Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center also offers complex, high-risk coronary interventions for:

  • PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) with short-term left ventricular assist device (Impella) support
  • Chronic total occlusion
  • Last remaining vessel in the heart
  • Severe coronary disease, unable to have bypass surgery
