Three Decades of Trusted Heart Care with Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center | Greg’s Story

After many visits to the Emergency Department, Greg Moody initially thought he had flu symptoms until he was informed that he was in congestive heart failure at the age of 37. Since then, he has trusted the teams at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center to get him back to do the things he loves.

Upon his diagnosis of congestive heart failure, Greg began seeing Dr. Morgan Lyons, Cardiologist at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center.

At first, Greg’s cardiology appointments were located in Morgantown, almost a two-hour commute from his home in Elkins. Fortunately, in 2018, Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center opened a location in Elkins, which has made traveling to and from appointments more convenient so that he can focus on his recovery. Greg has been able to complete his cardiac rehabilitation, stress tests, and echocardiograms. 

“Since it opened, I have been taking advantage of the cardiac rehab center in Elkins because it has been helping so much,” said Greg. “I feel like I can breathe much better and I feel very fortunate to be around to enjoy my 65th birthday because of it.”

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Elkins is designed to help individuals with congestive heart failure recover and improve their cardiovascular health. This usually involves exercise training, education, lifestyle modification, and is tailored to each patient’s needs.

“In March, I started experiencing some chest pain and shortness of breath, so they got me in right away for a heart catheterization,” said Greg. “The staff in Morgantown and Elkins have always treated me very well, and I can’t thank them enough for all the care that I have received.” 

Greg has felt a drastic improvement in his breathing since his heart catheterization, which is a procedure that involves the insertion of a tube into the blood vessels leading to the heart to treat heart conditions.

Greg has been able to receive most of his treatments in Elkins and will continue to have his follow-up appointments there. He has lived there for more than 30 years where he and his wife of almost 47 years share two children and five grandchildren together. 

28 years following his initial diagnosis, Greg is feeling much better and is back to fishing, golfing, and vacationing with his loved ones.

“Between Dr. Lyons and the Mon Health Heart & Vascular team, I owe them an awful lot,” he said, “They have been a big part of my life for the last 28 years, and they have been nothing but friendly and helpful, which made this difficult situation much easier.”
