Patient Finds Lifesaving Care with Mon Health Emergency and Heart & Vascular Teams | Luella’s Story

Posted Date: 08/23/2023

Luella Cvechko

When Luella Cvechko started experiencing chest pain in the middle of the night, she started the long journey of finding a facility that would help her identify the root of her issue. After blockages were found in her arteries, she decided to trust the teams at Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center to get her back on the road to a healthy heart.

In February 2023, Luella woke up with severe chest and arm pain. When her husband called 911, she could feel her pain getting worse. She had been brought to another hospital in the area and was told that nothing could be done. Three ambulance rides and four hospitals later, she finally found herself where she knew she needed to be, at Mon Health Medical Center’s Emergency Room where they found three blocked arteries in her heart.

“From the moment I stepped foot in the hospital, the efficiency was exceptional. But it was Dr. Gharib who truly stood out, with the utmost clarity and compassion. He explained every step of my treatment and I knew that he would be able to help me,” said Luella.

Dr. Wissam Gharib, Cardiologist at Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center, received all of Luella’s prior testing from the other facilities she had visited before coming to Mon Health. After receiving her results, he knew he would be able to help her.

“Dr. Gharib said I know that you are going to worry, but I’m telling you not to worry because I know I can help you,” she said. “I got the stent the next day.”

Dr. Gharib placed a stent in Luella’s heart that effectively restored blood flow to the compromised arteries. The procedure involved inserting a small, mesh-like tube into the blocked arteries, creating uninterrupted flow of blood to her heart.

“He was so impressive, and he said he was going to pray about it. He has not needed to place more stents because I’ve felt so much better,” she said.

Luella was born and raised in West Virginia. She and her husband share three children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She has always enjoyed gardening and going camping in Florida with her husband.

“I would highly recommend Mon Health,” said Luella. “Dr. Gharib is excellent, and his bedside manner is outstanding. I continue to see Dr. Gharib for my care and I haven’t had any problems since.”

The compassionate and dedicated team of providers made Mon Health the go-to partner in healthcare for Luella and many others. After a long month of traveling to several hospitals and seeing many different doctors, Luella is finally feeling much better thanks to the lifesaving care provided by Mon Health’s Emergency and Heart and Vascular Teams.
