WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health | A Students Shares Her Story

The Mon Health Scholars program provides WVJC School of Nursing students with financial resources for tuition, books, and academic fees. Nursing students complete their didactic coursework through WVJC’s online platform and satisfy most of their lab and clinical rotations within the Mon Health System network.
Mon Health Scholar, Katie Bennett, shares her story to encourage others who may be considering a career in nursing to choose the WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health.
Bennett works in the chaplain department at a local hospital and is a mother to four children. As she was working part time in a hospital setting, the passion she had in high school for healthcare began to stir inside her once again and she decided to go back to school to be a nurse.
“I never thought at my age that this would be attainable. Going back to school, being a mom, and fulfilling a dream I had in high school seemed far-off,” said Bennett. “Through this program I’ve learned so much and have rotated through many units, learning where I’ll be a good fit. I’m glad I decided to challenge myself and start this program.”
Graduates of the nursing program are conferred an Associate Degree of Nursing and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses to become a Registered Nurse.
Bennett is set to graduate from the WVJC Mon Health School of Nursing in November 2024.
“This program has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s worth it. I want to share with others who may be considering this program to take that leap of faith,” said Bennett. “This program has allowed me to balance my work, my family life, and my schoolwork. If I can do it, you can too.”
