Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital support group helps individuals navigate Parkinson’s disease

Posted Date: 3/31/2026

Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital continues to provide support and connection for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and their families through its Parkinson’s support group, which has seen strong participation since launching last fall.

The free Parkinson’s support group brings together individuals with Parkinson’s disease as well as their caregivers, spouses, family members and friends. The group meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Mon Preston Memorial Hospital.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance and coordination. Support groups can play an important role in helping individuals manage both the physical and emotional aspects of the disease while building a sense of community.

“This group has become an important resource for our community,” said Kevin Musselman, Physical Therapy Assistant, Preston Memorial Physical Therapy. “It offers a space where people can share experiences, learn from one another and feel supported.”

The group provides a welcoming environment for discussion, education and peer support, along with opportunities to learn strategies for managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

April is recognized as Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding of the disease and highlight resources available to those affected.
