Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center’s Gerasimovich recognized with DAISY Award for nursing excellence

Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center proudly announces ICU Nurse Micah Gerasimovich, RN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Care, a national recognition celebrating nurses for their skillful and compassionate care.

The DAISY Award, created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, is awarded to nurses who consistently demonstrate exceptional clinical expertise and kindness, making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. Micah was nominated by a patient’s family member who shared how his care went above and beyond expectations.

“Micah demonstrated genuine compassion in his interactions,” said a patient’s family member in a letter of support. “I am sure he was also busy with other patients and families, but his dedication to helping my family was obvious. I cannot even begin to describe how grateful I am to have a nurse as kind as Micah taking care of my grandfather.”

“Micah exemplifies the heart of nursing, always displaying clinical excellence with genuine compassion in our ICU unit — one of the most critical and demanding care settings,” said Jason Beringo, Director of Nursing, ICU, Mon Medical Center. “We are proud to celebrate his dedication to our patients and their families, as well as the vital support he provides to our colleagues.”

“Micah’s ability to guide patients and families through life’s most difficult moments makes him an invaluable part of our team,” added Christine Daniels, MBA, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center. “We celebrate his skill, compassion and kindness.”

“My goal from day-to-day is always to help my patients and their families have a better day in what can be a challenging setting,” Gerasimovich said.

As part of the award, Gerasimovich received a hand-carved “Healer’s Touch” sculpture, symbolizing the unique bond between nurses and the patients they serve.
