Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center launches advanced technology to expand urologic diagnostic capabilities

Posted Date: 3/25/2026

Vandalia Health has successfully completed its first patient evaluation using the Glean Wireless Urodynamics BrightUro system, an innovative, minimally invasive technology designed to improve the assessment and treatment of bladder and urinary conditions.

The technology is now available under the leadership of urologists Jaschar Shakuri-Rad, DO, FACOS, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery, Medical Director of Medical Specialties and Master Robotic Surgeon, David Hall, MD, and John Battin, MD, and the Mon Medical Center urology team, further advancing the system’s growing urology program and commitment to bringing leading care patients across the region.

Wireless urodynamics testing assesses how well the bladder and urethra store and release urine. Unlike traditional catheter-based systems, the BrightUro platform uses a wireless, catheter-free approach that allows patients to move more naturally during testing. This results in a more comfortable experience and enables physicians to capture more accurate, real-world data. For many patients, the ability to undergo testing without a catheter represents a significant improvement in both comfort and overall experience.

“This is a significant step forward in how we evaluate and understand bladder function,” said Dr. Shakuri-Rad. “By removing many of the limitations associated with traditional testing, we can better replicate everyday conditions and develop more precise, individualized treatment plans for our patients. Not only are we able to gather more natural data, we’re also improving the patient experience by eliminating the need for traditional catheter-based testing in many cases.”

The BrightUro system supports the diagnosis and management of a wide range of urologic conditions, including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, neurogenic bladder and other complex voiding disorders.

The addition of the BrightUro system reflects the continued growth and advancement of urology services at Mon Medical Center. The program has expanded in recent years to include advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive procedures and comprehensive care for both common and complex urologic conditions — helping patients access quality specialty care close to home. The program has been recognized among the top 10% in the nation for outpatient prostate care and earned the 2026 Healthgrades Outpatient Prostate Care Excellence Award — making Mon Medical Center the only hospital in West Virginia to receive this distinction.

“Vandalia Health continues to invest in technologies and clinical expertise that elevate the level of care we provide across the region,” said Krystal Atkinson, DNP, RN, CNOR, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Medical Center and Chief Nursing Executive of Vandalia Health-Northern Region. “The addition of BrightUro is another example of how our teams are advancing specialty services like urology, improving the patient experience and ensuring our communities have access to innovative care without having to travel far from home.”

The launch of BrightUro further strengthens Vandalia Health’s ability to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered urologic care and builds on the organization’s broader efforts to expand specialty services across its hospitals and clinics.
