Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital honors Weik with DAISY Award for nursing excellence
Posted Date: 4/14/2026
Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital has recognized Kate Weik, RN, ER Clinical Nurse Coordinator, as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, honoring her exceptional compassion and commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
Weik was nominated by a colleague after caring for a husband and wife injured in a serious two-vehicle collision while traveling from out of state. While the husband was treated and discharged, his wife was transferred to another hospital for additional care. With their vehicle totaled and no local support, Weik went above and beyond her clinical responsibilities by personally transporting the husband and the couple’s two service dogs to the receiving hospital to reunite them.
“Kate recognized a family in crisis and stepped in to provide support far beyond what is expected and personally ensured their needs were met during a very difficult time,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, Chief Administrative Officer for Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital, and Regional Medical Director of Emergency and Trauma Services, Vandalia Health. “Her actions — not just on this day, but every day — are a powerful example of the compassion that makes our hospital special. We are proud and thankful to have her caring for our patients and our community.”
The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to celebrate nurses who exemplify clinical excellence, compassion and a deep commitment to the well-being of their patients and families.
Weik’s nomination highlighted her dedication to caring for patients beyond their immediate medical needs, reflecting Vandalia Health’s mission to provide quality, patient-centered care.
