Officials, Community Leaders Break Ground on Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital

Posted Date: 6/5/2025

Hospital and community leaders gathered today to officially mark the start of construction on the Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital at Charles Pointe Crossing in Bridgeport—a project that will expand access to quality care for Harrison County and surrounding communities.

Modeled after the highly successful Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall—which has set the standard for small-format hospitals in the region—the new two-story, 40,000-square-foot hospital will bring 24/7 emergency care, inpatient services, advanced imaging and future clinical space to the fast-growing development near Menards. With a total investment of nearly $30 million, the new facility is designed to provide patients with fast, efficient and reliable care in a more convenient, community-based setting.

“As someone who grew up right here in Harrison County, I couldn’t be prouder to see this project take shape. We know from experience that neighborhood hospitals can make a big impact—offering fast, expert care in a setting that feels more personal and accessible,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, Emergency Services Director of Mon Health System and Chief Administrative Officer for Mon Marion and Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospitals. “We’re not just replicating a small-format hospital—we’re replicating a care experience that’s proven and consistently exceeds standards.”

“This hospital represents more than bricks and mortar—it represents a commitment we made to this community and a promise we’re now fulfilling,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System-Vandalia Health-Northern Region, and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “By bringing care directly into the neighborhoods where people live and work, we’re reinforcing Vandalia Health’s mission to provide accessible, quality care that puts patients first.”

The hospital’s first floor will include:

  • A full-service emergency department with eight treatment rooms
  • Ten private inpatient rooms for short-stay hospital care
  • Advanced imaging including CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray and echocardiography
  • On-site pharmacy and lab services

The second floor will be built as shell space, offering flexibility for future expansion based on community needs.

“This project is a cornerstone of what we envisioned when we began developing Charles Pointe—a complete, thriving community where people can truly live, work and now receive excellent health care,” said James Corton, President and CEO, Genesis Partners. “We are proud to partner with Vandalia Health on a hospital that will elevate the quality of life for our residents and the region at large.”

The development of the hospital was made possible through coordination with the City of Bridgeport, Harrison County Commission, Genesis Partners and the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district stakeholders. Construction of the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2026.

“At Vandalia Health, we believe health care should be deeply personal, truly local and uncompromising in quality. The Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital is an investment in that belief—and in the people of Harrison County. This facility will not only deliver outstanding care but build confidence in the health and future of this region,” said David Ramsey, President and CEO of Vandalia Health.

“This groundbreaking marks a defining moment—not just for Vandalia Health, but for the future of health care in this region,” said Ronald Stovash, Chairman of the Board of Mon Marion and Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospitals and Chairman of the Board of Vandalia Health. “We are building with purpose, ensuring that this facility meets today’s needs and tomorrow’s growth with flexibility, innovation and heart.”
