Mon Health’s Progressing Through Postpartum Program (P3) Awarded $50,000 Through Highmark Bright Blue Futures Award

Posted Date: 10/2/2023
On Monday, September 25, Mon Health’s Progressing through Postpartum Program (P3) was awarded a $50,000 grant through the Highmark Bright Blue Futures Awards program.

Made possible by the Highmark Foundation, the Highmark Bright Blue Futures Awards program hosted its first-ever awards ceremony in Pittsburgh, PA, to recognize the exemplary programming and leadership in nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits throughout Highmark Health’s footprint, which includes Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, Western New York, and Northeastern New York, were recognized.

Mon Health’s P3 Program was recognized and awarded as an impactful program, designed to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals through innovative, novel approaches and for achieving quantifiable results.

“This award signifies that women do not have to suffer in silence and recognizes the 3,673 women that we have screened and supported since January 2020,” said Jennifer Bender, Lead Nurse Navigator for the P3 Program. “We are passionate about this work, and we are thrilled that the Highmark Foundation’s Bright Blue Futures is coming alongside us to share in this passion.”

One in 5 mothers and one in 10 partners will experience a perinatal mood disorder such as depression and anxiety during pregnancy and up to a year after giving birth. Mon Health’s P3 program is combating these statistics by offering postpartum support services to new families.

Through Mon Health’s P3 Program, mothers are screened before, during, and after pregnancy for any indication of anxiety, depression, or mood disorder. This allows for early detection and management of symptoms, giving the P3 team an opportunity to connect with mothers early on and provide continuous support throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey.

“We are the first in West Virginia to offer services specific to postpartum depression, anxiety, and mood disorders, and we recognize the importance of supporting families in an overwhelming time in their lives,” said Luella Gunter, Executive Director of Philanthropy and Community Affairs. “We are hopeful for the future of this program and will continue to pursue the gold standard in maternal mental health.”
