Mon Health Welcomes New Year’s Babies

Two sets of parents welcomed 2021 New Year’s babies on January 1 at Mon Health Hospitals. Baby Layne, son of Josie and Cody Carpenter, arrived at Morgantown’s Mon Health Medical Center at 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning. The family is from the Waynesburg, PA area. New parents Lora Nicholson and Chris Clark welcomed their New Year’s baby, Ryder, at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Weston, two hours later at 8:34 a.m.
Staff at both Hospitals felt a special joy to be a part of these special New Year’s Day births. Sarah Sloane, RN, of Mon Health Medical Center, had a special thought on the New Year’s Baby experience.
“I feel very privileged to be a part of their story and their experience. Our goal is to provide the best care, and empower the family, and give them the tools they will need to be successful. I really want to make the delivery process wonderful, because this is a life-long memory for these families. This delivery is extra special and exciting for me, because even though I have been here for five, almost six years, this is my very first holiday baby. Every delivery is special to me…but with the year that we have had, this new year baby gives us renewed hope, in our New Year,” said Sloane.
New mother Lora Nicholson was quite happy with the care she received through the Mon Health System at SJMH.
“I had been seeing Dr. Harris and midwife Sarah Highlander, in Weston, for my prenatal care,” explained Nicholson. “I really loved the care they gave me, but Dr. Harris was out of town so Dr. Brian Bower stepped in to deliver my son. I had my daughter here at Stonewall, also and have always received wonderful care from the staff.”
Ryder has an older sister – six-year-old Alexandria Walton. His maternal grandparents are Florence Nicholson and the late Thomas Nicholson of Weston. The paternal grandparents are Wendy Clarks and the late Jeffrey Clark of Roanoke. Maternal uncles are Nick and Travis Nicholson. Paternal aunt and uncle are Arianna Clark and Shawn Clark. Ryder also has a cousin - Emery Wilburn
