Mon Health Medical Center Foundation presents $35,000 in scholarships

The Mon Health Medical Center Foundation presented $35,000 in scholarships Monday, May 7, to 35 area students pursuing degrees in healthcare fields at its 28th Annual Health Career Scholarship Awards Program.

The scholarships are valued at $4,000 each, at $1,000 per year. Selection was based on the application, academic performance and financial need. Each applicant also submitted a letter describing why they selected a specific health career.

The Foundation created the Health Career Scholarship program in 1991 to promote healthcare careers in fields with projected worker shortages in the Morgantown area. Since the establishment of the program, the Foundation has awarded over $657,000 in Health Career Scholarships. A sub-committee of the foundation's Board of Directors selected the recipients.

The scholarships, named after the donor who created the scholarship, and the recipients are as follows:

Martha Phillips Hupp Scholarships
  • Nicole Allamon of Grindstone, PA, seeking a BS Degree in Nursing from California University of PA.
  • Emiley Bruner of Morgantown, seeking a nursing degree from West Virginia University (WVU).
  • Andrea Idler of Morgantown, seeking a Biomedical Engineering degree at WVU.

George D. Hott Scholarships

  • Tressa Bonasso of Fairmont, seeking a Nursing degree from WVU.
  • Morgan Darling of Core, seeking a BS degree in Nursing from WVU.
Robert & Sharon Lynch Scholarships
  • Drew Cubic, Jr. of Nemacolin, PA, seeking a Master's Degree in Nursing from California University of PA.
