The Mon Health Medical Center Family Birth Center has earned the Cribs for Kids National Safe Sleep Certification designation as a Bronze Safe Sleep Hospital.

The National Safe Sleep Certification Program acknowledges hospitals with an established commitment to community leadership for best practices and education in sleep safety. Receiving such honors signifies an institution is dedicated to the mission of ensuring infant safety in their sleep environments and eliminating as many sleep-related deaths as possible.

“We are honored to accept this award as it demonstrates the excellent care delivered to our patients and their families,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System. “It is our responsibility to provide a safe environment for patients and ensure they are equipped with the knowledge to properly care for their child upon returning home.”

As a Bronze Safe Sleep Hospital, Mon Health Medical Center continually facilitates training for the Family Birth Center team members, as well as education to parents, guardians and other caregivers of patients younger than one year of age.

"The birth of a child is a momentous event for patients,” said Dr. Shane Prettyman, an OBGYN at Mon Health Medical Center. “It is crucial to provide families with excellent care accompanied by education to care for a child during the first stages of life. I believe that one of the most important aspects of my profession is to be an educator, to truly inform patients and educate them,” Prettyman added.

Mon Health Medical Center received official recognition of the Bronze Safe Sleep Hospital Award at the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership Summit Awards Ceremony on October 17 at Stonewall Resort.
