Mon Health Gynecology now offers advanced treatment for bladder and bowel incontinence

Posted Date: 7/21/2025

Vandalia Health OB-GYN physicians John Sunyecz, MD, FACOG, and Christine Wilson, MD, FACOG, are now treating patients with Axonics Therapy, a device that offers long-lasting relief for people suffering from overactive bladder, bowel incontinence and urinary retention.

First introduced at Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center by urologist Jaschar Shakuri-Rad, DO, FACOS, Axonics Therapy is now available for patients of Drs. Suynecz and Wilson of Mon Health Gynecology in Hopwood, Pa., as a clinically proven option for better control of bladder and bowel function.

Axonics Therapy works by delivering gentle electrical stimulation to the nerves that regulate bladder and bowel control. This helps restore normal communication between th brain and pelvic organs, significantly improving symptoms. The device is designed to last 15 or more years, eliminating the need for repeat surgeries. It is also safe for patients undergoing full-body MRI scans, providing added peace of mind for long-term use.

“The reality in treating urge incontinence today is that most medications come with warnings for patients over 65 and are often too expensive,” said Dr. Wilson. “I’m so pleased to offer this procedure as a safe, effective alternative. The results I’ve seen have been extremely impressive.”

Clinical studies have shown that 93% of patients experienced significant symptom improvement two years after receiving the implant, with 94% reporting overall satisfaction with the therapy. The device has been shown to help patients regain control of both urinary and bowel function, offering relief and a high level of patient satisfaction.

“While I’ve been encouraged by outcomes for patients with urinary incontinence, I’ve also seen significant improvements in bowel symptoms — especially in those who may have underreported them,” Dr. Sunyecz said.

Axonics Therapy is a registered trademark owned and distributed by Boston Scientific.
