Mon Health Announces Telehealth for Stroke and Neurology Patients

Posted Date: 6/27/2019

Beginning July 1, 2019, Mon Health System and WVU Medicine will collaborate to provide 24/7 teleneurology services at all three hospitals: Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston. Mon Health physicians will have access to Board Certified Neurologists from WVU to quickly assess and recommend treatment for urgent stroke patients. Rapid diagnosis and treatment provide the best opportunity to reverse debility and further prevent loss of functioning in patients suffering from acute stroke symptoms Following this initial treatment, patients will be evaluated to determine if continuing medical care will be provided at the Mon facility or at another facility. Teleneurology consultations for inpatients with neurologic conditions will also be available.

This new partnership will provide continuity of care and allow patients to be assessed and treated as quickly as possible and close to home. In addition, it creates a team approach between Mon Health System and WVU Medicine, something that Mon Health System President and CEO David Goldberg deems an important function for the future of health care in West Virginia. “We share one goal and vision to drive world-class stroke care for the patients that we serve,” says Goldberg. “By working together to provide teleneurology services, our community hospitals have access to the medical expertise that is right here in Morgantown. There is no need to look outside our own area for this great care.”

“Our primary goal in the upcoming year is to educate as many people as possible in the community on the signs and symptoms of acute stroke. In addition, Mon Health System is committed to partnering with local EMS to ensure that quick, timely transport is available to get patients to the nearest facility,” says Gregory Nelcamp, MD, Senior Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Mon Health System.
