MedExpress and Mon Health System Announce Care Collaboration

Posted Date: 9/2/2014

MedExpress and Mon Health System are excited to announce the launch of a collaborative care initiative between the two health care organizations. MedExpress will coordinate care with Mon General Hospital and Mon Health System’s network of physicians if more advanced care is needed by patients, while continuing to respect patient choice.

In addition, MedExpress has recently announced the construction of a second Morgantown neighborhood medical center, this one adjacent to the Mon Health System campus on Maple Drive in Suncrest. Neither MedExpress nor Mon Health System has any ownership stake in the other; they remain completely separate entities and formed this collaborative relationship to serve in the best interest of the community and patients.

The collaborative care agreement is designed to enhance quality, increase patient convenience and lower costs, while adding value to the patient and his/her health care experience. It demonstrates MedExpress’ and Mon Health System’s common value system and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care.

“We are very pleased to be collaborating and coordinating with Mon Health System which shares our passion for patient centered care,” said Frank Alderman, M.D., CEO of MedExpress. “With this collaborative care initiative, we truly feel we will increase value for our patients and our community. Moreover, we look forward to opening our second neighborhood medical center in Suncrest where we, as in all of our other centers, will provide high quality, affordable care for  wellness and prevention, illnesses and injuries, as well as an array of occupational health services.”

“We are delighted to be working with MedExpress to provide timely, high-quality, coordinated care for our patient population,” said Darryl L. Duncan, Mon Health System President and CEO.  “This is an ideal model of two existing entities forming a partnership to leverage existing resources in the community.”

“This collaborative care initiative benefits our patients because of the synergistic relationship between MedExpress and Mon Health System’s family of primary care physicians, specialists and in-patient services,” Duncan said.   “When all are communicating and collaborating, the result is quality patient-centered care.”

The second MedExpress location is scheduled to be completed this fall.  It will feature the same warm and welcoming environment that has become the hallmark of MedExpress.  Like its sister location on the Waterfront at 215 Don Knotts Blvd., the new location on Maple Drive will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, to offer urgent care services, including X-rays, IVs, EKGs, labs, minor surgery, stitches and treatment for broken bones, sprains and strains; wellness services – such as flu shots and tobacco cessation counseling – and a host of occupational health services to benefit local employers and their employees.
