Posted Date: 6/25/2025

Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Cancer Center proudly welcomes Filip Ionescu, MD, to its oncology team. Dr. Ionescu brings nationally recognized expertise in hematology and medical oncology, with a special focus on innovative treatment strategies for solid tumors and blood cancers.

Dr. Ionescu completed advanced fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at the internationally recognized H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and University of South Florida, where he served as Chief Fellow. He joins Vandalia Health following his role as Assistant Professor of Oncologic Sciences at the same institutions, where he focused on genitourinary cancers and complex hematologic and oncologic inpatient care. As a researcher and educator, he has contributed to more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and national presentations, with clinical interests spanning prostate cancer, leukemia, CAR T-cell therapies and survivorship care.

“Dr. Ionescu brings a wealth of expertise shaped by his advanced training and impactful work at Moffitt Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leading cancer research institutions,” said Ihtishaam Qazi, MD, Medical Director of Oncology for Mon Health System. “His dedication to compassionate, evidence-based care will significantly elevate the oncology services we offer across our region.”

“I believe that cancer care should combine scientific precision with a deeply personal approach,” Dr. Ionescu said. “My goal is not only to provide the best available treatments grounded in science and medical evidence, but also to care for my patients as whole, complex human beings. A serious illness can alter a person’s life, but it doesn’t have to define it. I aim to help patients stay connected to their work, families and communities, and tailor treatments to fit their individual realities as much as possible. I’m proud to join Vandalia Health in delivering quality care right here in West Virginia.”

Dr. Ionescu is a graduate of Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. His dedication to excellence has earned him numerous honors, including the 2023 Best Clinician Award at Moffitt Cancer Center and the American Society of Hematology Achievement Award. Passionate about bridging research and community care, he brings a global perspective to his practice.

Dr. Ionescu is seeing patients at Vandalia Health’s Morgantown and Weston locations. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 304-598-6560 visit MonHealth.com/Cancer.
