Grafton City Hospital joins Vandalia Health

Posted Date: 8/31/2026

Community leaders, hospital officials and representatives from Vandalia Health gathered Monday for a signing ceremony at Grafton City Hospital to officially mark the hospital’s transition into the Vandalia Health system as Vandalia Health Grafton Hospital effective Sept. 1.

The transition follows approval from the West Virginia Health Care Authority and continues a longstanding partnership between the organizations. Mon Health System, a member of Vandalia Health, has provided management services to the hospital since 2019.

The move strengthens healthcare services in Taylor County by expanding access to resources, expertise and a collaborative network available through Vandalia Health while preserving the hospital’s commitment to local, community-based care.

“Grafton City Hospital has played an important role in the health and well-being of this community for generations, and we are excited to officially welcome the hospital into Vandalia Health as Vandalia Health Grafton Hospital,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Vandalia Health Grafton Hospital and Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “This partnership allows us to build on the excellent care already being provided while creating new opportunities to strengthen services and support patients close to home.”

Since Mon Health System began providing management services to Grafton City Hospital in 2019, the partnership has connected the hospital with additional clinical expertise and operational resources. It has supported expanded access to cardiology services as well as substance use treatment programming provided by Vandalia Health physicians, while creating greater opportunities for collaboration among providers across the region. The partnership has also helped advance the hospital’s continued investments in technology, programs and facilities that meet the healthcare needs of Taylor County and surrounding communities.

“Bringing Grafton City Hospital fully into Vandalia Health builds on a partnership that has already demonstrated the value of working together to strengthen healthcare in our communities,” said Jeff Sandene, President and CEO of Vandalia Health. “Grafton is an important part of our broader commitment to ensuring communities across West Virginia have access to quality care close to home, supported by the resources, expertise and capabilities of a multi-state health system. As Vandalia Health Grafton Hospital, we have an opportunity to build on the hospital’s strengths, expand connections across our network and ensure it remains a strong healthcare resource for this community for years to come.”
