Known locally as “Dr. Mike,” Dr. Schwarzenberg was a medical staff member of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, served as Chief of Staff, and in other leadership roles within the medical staff during his tenure. Over the years, Dr. Schwarzenberg has cared for thousands of patients, often treating multiple generations of the same family, a testament to the trust and respect he has earned within the community.
Throughout his career, Dr. Schwarzenberg has been actively involved in community initiatives and education. He is always willing to enhance the health and wellbeing of his patients both inside and outside the clinic. As such, his private primary care practice was designated as a patient-centered medical home. At that time, this was an innovative approach to provide comprehensive and high-quality primary care. “Dr. Schwarzenberg has been an extraordinary physician, and his retirement marks the end of a generation of physicians who cared for their patients across the continuum of care,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “His passion for medicine coupled with his deep compassion for patients, has left an indelible mark on both our hospital and the broader community. We will miss him.”
A celebration of Dr. Schwarzenberg’s career and accomplishments was held on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the hospital with medical staff and colleagues.
