Mon Health System President and CEO Darryl Duncan, left, accepts a $1 million check from Ken Juskowich, DeLynn/Mon General Foundation Golf Classic Chairman, and Glenn Adrian, tournament Co-Chairman. The check represents the amount of money the tournament has raised to support patient care at Mon General Hospital during the past 24 years.

In its 24 year history, the DeLynn/Mon General Foundation Golf Classic has now raised more than $1 million in support of patient care at Mon General Hospital. The golf classic broke the $1 million mark during its 24th Annual DeLynn/Mon General Foundation Golf Classic held on Monday, Aug. 18, at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, WV.

“Thanks to 133 golfers and all of our sponsors, this tournament netted more than $60,000,” said Bill Hennessey, Executive Director of The Foundation of Mon General Hospital. “When added to the grand total, this means that in the first 24 years of the tournament, we have netted and given Mon General Hospital more than $1 million.”

The tournament features both a fun division and a gross division. Each year the winning fun division team selects the project to be funded from the tournament proceeds. The project selected this year was a Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring System for The Wound Healing Center of Mon General Hospital. This system is used in wound evaluation to assess the oxygen level of tissue beneath the skin.

In the fun division, first place, with a net score of 52.3 went to the team of Jerry Stone, Neil Bucklew, Glenn Adrian, JT Straface, Dave Stone, Ryan Adrian and George Curry. In addition to selecting the project funded by the tournament proceeds, the winning team members will also have their names engraved on the Jean and Laurence DeLynn trophy, which is prominently displayed in the hospital lobby near The Foundation offices.

In second place in the fun division with a score of 55.5 was the team of Steve Barnum, Chris Barnum, Adam Rohaly, David Snider, Jake Hatch and Jeff Culhane. In third place with a score of 58 was the team of Sam McLaughlin, Peter Binotto, Larry Cavallo, Matt Imrich, Mike Holiday and Greg Cunningham.

In the gross division, first place with a score of 54, went to the team of John Wassick III, Garrett Wassick, Dan Wassick Jr., Sam Urso, James Morris and Todd Gump.

Skill prizes at the Golf Classic included: Closest to Pin No. 4, Bryan Deem; Closest to Pin No. 7, Randell Trueblood; Closest to Pin No. 13, Mike Marrara; Closest to Pin No. 16, Bill Mazeroski; Straightest Drive on No. 5, Randy Buzzo; Longest Drive on No. 6, Clark Sinsel; Longest Drive on No. 14, Sam McLaughlin; and Longest Putt on No. 18, Bill Borchert.

The golf classic is dedicated to the memory of Laurence DeLynn, who was a long-time sponsor of the event along with his wife, Jean. The permanent trophy is named in their honor.

The Platinum sponsor for the tournament was Jean DeLynn. Chairman sponsors were Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; JacksonKelly, PLLC; BB&T Bank; MVB Bank/MVB Insurance; Gabe’s; Mountaineer Contractors, Inc. and the Morgantown Medical Arts Building.
