Mon Health Providers Share Ways Women Can Keep Health a Top Priority

Posted Date: 4/26/2024
Mon Health providers Dr. Melinda Cooper and Deborah Boyer, NP, are taking advantage of the last few days in Women’s Health Month to share some health tips for women.

Dr. Cooper, internal medicine, pediatrics, and primary care physician at Mon Health Wedgewood Primary Care & Psychiatry, shares the importance of prioritizing your health, especially as a woman.

“As women, we tend to take care of everyone around us and won’t always take the time to focus on what we need to do to stay healthy, and that includes taking care of both our physical and mental health,” said Dr. Cooper. “Finding some time to exercise, eat well, and get some rest can make a huge impact on our overall health, so I encourage all women to take a step back and find ways they can make themselves and their health a priority.”

Boyer, a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in gynecology at Mon Health Medical Center, says that regular exams are vital to staying on top of your health and encourages all women to schedule an appointment with their providers annually, but not to wait to come in if they feel like something may be wrong.

“A woman knows her body better than anyone, so if she feels that something may not be right, she should not wait to be seen by her healthcare provider,” said Boyer. “We are always happy to sit down with you and discuss your concerns so we can get to the root of the problem together.”

Taking care of your health as a woman should be in-depth and comprehensive, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. At Mon Health, our team of providers works together to ensure you have a well-rounded understanding of your own health and helps you keep up with the nuances that come with healthcare.

“Many women know that they ought to be screened for breast cancer and cervical cancer, but can neglect other vital aspects of their overall health,” said Dr. Cooper. “That’s why I encourage women to schedule an annual appointment with their primary care provider to discuss their nutrition, sleeping habits, and mental health, so that they can stay on top of those daily health needs, along with their annual exams.”
