Mon Health Medical Center is pleased to announce that its 1,000th robotic surgery has been successfully completed using the da Vinci XI Surgical System which was first acquired by the hospital in 2019.

“Over the past three years, we were able to create a state-of-the-art robotic surgical program for our communities that rivals the best in the country,” said Dr. Jaschar Shakuri-Rad, Robotic Surgery Medical Director. “We are also the only accredited Center of Excellence in the region which signifies that we have the experience to produce superior outcomes. I am very proud of our excellent staff and surgeons who have shown the utmost dedication to providing the best care possible to our patients.”

Considered one of the most dynamic tools for robotic surgery in the world, the da Vinci XI Surgical System uses advanced, robotic, computer, and optical technologies. The system delivers 3D high-definition vision, showing crystal-clear views of the surgical area that is magnified 10 times what the human eye sees.

Procedures are minimally invasive, using small incisions roughly the size of a dime. This means safer procedures, better outcomes, and quicker recoveries for patients.

“We are extremely proud to recognize the Mon Health Medical Center Robotic Surgery Team for performing 1,000 robotic procedures,” said Krystal Atkinson, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Health Medical Center. “This significant milestone is a testament to their dedication to delivering the highest level of care possible for our patients.”

Mon Health Medical Center has also received accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation. This accreditation distinguishes Mon Health Medical Center from other facilities by providing the highest quality of care to patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. In addition, Dr. Shakuri-Rad was also recognized as a Master Surgeon in Robotic Surgery and Surgeon of Excellence.

Robotic procedures performed at Mon Health Medical Center include colorectal surgeries, gallbladder surgeries, hernia repairs, Nissen surgery for acid reflux or hiatal hernia, advanced kidney surgery for benign and cancerous disease, prostate and bladder cancer surgery, surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, and reconstructive surgery.
