Mon Health Medical Center Receives ACC HeartCARE Center Designation

Posted Date: 5/22/2020

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has designated Mon Health Medical Center as a HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence in May based upon meeting accreditation criteria, through ongoing performance registry reporting, and by providing comprehensive, high-quality culture and cardiovascular care. Mon Health Medical Center becomes the only hospital in West Virginia and only the 24th hospital in the entire country to receive this honor.

Hospitals and health systems that have earned an ACC HeartCARE Center designation have demonstrated their commitment to consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence and community engagement.

Designation is based upon a set of criteria, including participating in at least two ACC Accreditation Services programs. As a participant in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry, MHMC conducts targeted, quality improvement campaigns that are designed to help hospitals and institutions close gaps in guideline-based care. In addition, Mon Health Medical Center was previously awarded a Chest Pain Center with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) Accreditation through the ACC.

“Mon Health Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to providing Morgantown and surrounding communities with excellent heart care,” said Phillip D. Levy, MD, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Mon Health Medical Center with the HeartCARE Center designation.”

The ACC offers U.S. and international hospitals like Mon Health Medical Center access to a comprehensive suite of cardiac accreditation services designed to optimize patient outcomes and improve hospital financial performance.

These services are focused on all aspects of cardiac care.

“This is truly a monumental achievement,” said Bradford Warden, MD, Executive Director of the Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center. “We are the 24th institution in the country and the only in the state of West Virginia to receive this designation. It's a true representation of the quality and technologically advanced care that we provide to each patient.
