Mon Health Medical Center Receives ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation for Ninth Year in A Row

Posted Date: 2/21/2020

Mon Health Medical Center has been recognized again by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary  Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, one person experiences a heart attack every 40 seconds in the United States. The most common symptom is chest pain, but a number of warning signs may also occur and can vary among patients.

Hospitals earning ACC Chest Pain Accreditation must show an exceptional ability to treat patients with heart attack symptoms.

“Our team of doctors, nurses and clinicians demonstrate their knowledge and commitment in treating patients experiencing cardiac events, and do so with compassion,” says Mon Health President and CEO, David Goldberg. “As a Level IV Trauma Center, we provide advanced life saving trauma support including evaluation, stabilization and diagnostic capabilities to anyone who comes in our door. We’re humbled to have been recognized again for the hard work and dedication our cardiac care teams continue to put in each and every day for the communities we serve.”

According to the ACC, hospitals earning an ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation must undergo a clinical process that involves: completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care, developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success. Improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing of guidelines and standards, and adopting best practices in the care of patients experiencing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.

The accreditation follows recent nationally recognized accolades for Mon Health's AFib center and an Acute Stroke Ready certification awarded to Preston Memorial Hospital.

“Mon Health Medical Center has a long legacy of excellence in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic care. This accreditation is confirmation that, as technology and processes have grown and improved, we continue our commitment to providing the forefront of heart care for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Bradford Warden, Executive Director of the Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center.

The ACC offers U.S. and international hospitals like Mon Heath Medical Center cardiac accreditation services designed to optimize patient outcomes and improve hospital performance. These services are focused on all aspects of cardiac care, including chest pain.
