Posted Date: 10/29/2026

Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital leaders presented respiratory therapist Logan Colley, RRT, with the PHIL Award, honoring his clinical expertise, compassionate care and support for patients and their families.

The PHIL Award, which stands for Pulmonary Health and Illnesses of the Lungs, is a national hospital-based recognition program honoring outstanding respiratory therapists. Participating hospitals present the award annually to a respiratory therapist whose care demonstrates professional excellence, compassion and empathy.

Colley was nominated by Brittany Shaffer for the care he provided to her mother-in-law during an emergency room visit. In her nomination, Shaffer described his calm demeanor, strong clinical skills and clear communication as her mother-in-law’s condition worsened.

“Logan was instrumental in the care of my mother-in-law during her visit to the emergency room,” Shaffer wrote. “He remained calm, delivered care with compassion, and exhibited strong clinical skill.”

Shaffer praised Colley for quickly assessing the situation and adjusting medications and oxygen equipment while keeping the family informed.

“He communicated what was happening and what to expect next. He was supportive of us as well,” she wrote. “We can’t thank him enough. We are so thankful he was there that day!”

“Logan’s clinical skill and compassion make a lasting difference for patients and their families, often long after they leave the hospital,” said Jennifer Nestor, RN, BSN, MHA, Chief Nursing Officer of Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “His nomination and the heartfelt gratitude of former patients and their families reflect the impact of his care. We are proud to honor Logan and celebrate the essential work of our respiratory therapy team.”

The award is the signature program of The FACES Foundation, which stands for Family and Caregiver Education & Support. Established in 2006 by Sharman Lamka in memory of her husband, Philip C. Lamka, who died from complications of interstitial lung disease, the program recognizes the vital role respiratory therapists play in caring for people with pulmonary illnesses
