Vandalia Health donates AED to Maple Lake Club to enhance community safety
Posted Date: 7/8/2026
Visitors enjoying summer activities at Maple Lake in Harrison County now have access to a potentially lifesaving resource thanks to a donation from Vandalia Health.
Vandalia Health recently donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Maple Lake Club, where it has been installed near the swimming area to provide rapid access during a cardiac emergency. The donation reflects Vandalia Health's ongoing commitment to improving the health and safety of the communities it serves.
Established in 1929, Maple Lake Club is a longstanding recreational destination in the Bridgeport area, welcoming members and guests for swimming, fishing and other outdoor activities throughout the summer.
"Having an AED readily available in a high-traffic recreational area can make a critical difference during a cardiac emergency," said Jennifer Nestor, Chief Nursing Officer, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital, and Maple Lake Club board member. “We are proud to partner with Maple Lake Club to help create a safer environment for families and visitors while reinforcing the importance of emergency preparedness."
When someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation decreases the chance of survival. Having an AED nearby allows lifeguards, trained bystanders, or emergency responders to quickly deliver a potentially lifesaving shock while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.
"This generous donation demonstrates Vandalia Health's commitment to the wellbeing of our community," said Michael Arnold, President of the Maple Lake Club. "Maple Lake has been part of the Bridgeport community for nearly 100 years, and having an AED available near our swimming area provides added peace of mind for our members and their families."
The donation comes as Vandalia Health continues expanding access to healthcare services throughout north-central West Virginia, including the upcoming opening of Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital at Charles Pointe in Bridgeport, just a few miles from Maple Lake Club.
"Our mission extends beyond providing care inside our facilities," Nestor said. “Supporting community organizations with resources like AEDs helps ensure people have access to lifesaving equipment where they live, work and gather."
