Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center has recognized Allison Gerst, RNC-OB, a labor and delivery nurse, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, an international program that honors nurses for providing compassionate, exceptional patient care.
The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families through clinical excellence and compassionate care. Gerst has worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Mon Medical Center’s Family Birth Center for eight years.
Gerst was nominated by a patient who praised her compassion, attentiveness and emotional support during a deeply difficult experience. Gerst provided comfort, guidance and reassurance throughout her care, making a lasting impact during one of the most emotional moments of her life.
“Allison’s care was beyond typical. It was extraordinary. I will never forget the level of care I received from her,” said the patient in a letter of support. “Her devotion, love and care skills are something to be recognized. She is full of compassion for her patients in those tough times and good. Allison offers every level of comfort she can think of and provides it.”
“Receiving the DAISY Award as a labor and delivery nurse means more to me than I can put into words,” Gerst said. “It is such an honor to be recognized for being part of one of the most emotional and life-changing moments in a family’s life. Supporting mothers through strength, fear, joy and new beginnings is truly a privilege that I never take for granted.”
“Allison’s recognition is a reflection of the meaningful connections she builds with patients and families during some of life’s most important moments,” said Christine Daniels, MBA, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center. “Her compassion, professionalism and commitment to providing exceptional care make her a valued member of our labor and delivery team.”
“Nurses like Allison help define the patient experience through the care, support and comfort they provide,” said Krystal Atkinson, DNP, RN, CNOR, Senior Vice President, Vandalia Health. “We are proud to recognize her for the extraordinary difference she makes for patients, families and her fellow team members.”
The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family after he died from complications of an autoimmune disease at age 33. The foundation honors nurses internationally through partnerships with health care organizations and nursing schools.
Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center presents the DAISY Award regularly to nurses nominated by patients, families and colleagues for outstanding compassionate care.
