Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center Receives New Quality-Based Accreditation from DNV

Posted Date: 6/23/2025

Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center announces the successful completion of its new quality-based accreditation process and has been awarded accreditation by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), a global independent certification, assurance and risk management provider, operating in more than 100 countries.

This accreditation shows that Mon Medical Center not only meets the safety requirements set by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services but also goes further by adopting a global quality system known as ISO 9001, which helps organizations improve how they operate and deliver services.

“The DNV accreditation reflects our long-term commitment to delivering safe, quality care,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System - Vandalia Health Northern Region, and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “Bringing ISO 9001 quality standards into our clinical and financial processes helps us improve how we work across the board and provide even better care for our patients.”

Over the next three years, Mon Medical Center will continue working toward full implementation of the ISO 9001 quality system framework to improve performance and sustainability.

“We have taken an entirely different approach to accreditation, and hospitals are really responding,” said DNV Healthcare USA Inc. President Kelly Proctor. “Since accreditation is a must-have credential for just about every hospital in this country, why not make it more valuable and get more out of it? That’s where ISO 9001 comes into play and turns the typical get-your-ticket-punched accreditation exercise into a quality transformation.”

DNV’s accreditation program, known as NIAHO® (Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), involves annual hospital surveys – instead of every three years – and encourages transparency, interdepartmental collaboration and continuous improvement in clinical workflows and safety protocols.

“Achieving this accreditation is a testament to the hard work of our entire team,” said Krystal Atkinson, DNP, RN, CNOR, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer of Mon Medical Center and Chief Nursing Executive of Vandalia Health-Northern Region. “Our patients and the quality of care we provide them guide every decision we make at Mon Medical Center. Our DNV accreditation shows that we are not only meeting national quality standards but continually striving to exceed them in everything we do.”
