Preston Memorial wraps up holiday giving season
Posted Date: 2/4/2020
PMH employees present donations from the annual holiday food drive to Tammy Laney, Food for Preston Coordinator.
Between
November 2019 and January 2020, PMH employees supported the Salvation Army,
Food for Preston and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties through
gifts and monetary donations.
Kim Liston, Preston Memorial
Community Programs Coordinator, spoke about the generosity of PMH staff and
volunteers. “Employees love participating in PMH sponsored giving events,
especially during the holiday season. People enjoy giving back to those in need
around the holidays. As a community hospital, we want to support the programs
within our communities in every way possible.”
Employees were able to bring
holiday cheer to 32 children within Preston County through the Salvation Army
Angel Tree Program. PMH also donated gifts to Hopemont Hospital in Terra Alta to
make the holiday season brighter for 61 senior citizens within its community.
Preston Memorial Hospital provided
additional support for the community through its 2020 United Way workplace
campaign, which concluded in December. PMH is just one of many organizations in
the area that raised funds to support the United Way of Monongalia and Preston
Counties’ “Invest in Your Community” Campaign. This year PMH approached its
workplace campaign differently than in years past by hosting several raffle
basket giveaways, a bake sale and special attire days for employees to help
raise funds.
The United Way plays a vital role
in helping the common good of the community, focusing on three key areas,
including health, education and financial stability. The United Way of
Monongalia and Preston Counties provides funding to 46 programs and 24 health
and human service agencies, such as the Salvation Army, Food for Preston and
Preston County Workshop.
Additionally, PMH wrapped up its
annual holiday food drive to benefit Food for Preston in mid-January. Employees
donated more than 15 boxes of canned food and non-perishable items. All items
collected from employees will be donated locally to Preston County food
pantries, Starting Points baby food pantry and Food for Preston’s Backpack
Program.
“We would just like to thank
everyone who graciously supported our community this holiday season,” Liston
said. “We wouldn’t be able to provide so much support to the community without
the efforts of our employees and volunteers.”
