Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation successfully hosts third annual Night at the Races fundraising event

Posted Date: 1/30/2020

The Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation held its third annual Night at the Races event on Friday, January 10 at the Craig Civic Center. More than 220 people participated, raising funds totaling over $22,000. Attendance and funds raised nearly doubled at the January 2020 fundraiser from the previous event in 2019.

Tarrell Ries, Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation Board President, expressed his enthusiasm for the success of the annual event. “Each Night at the Races event continues to grow. The first was held in 2018 and hosted 88 guests. Fast-track to January 2020, and the event had over 220 guests. Those who attend love the event and do the legwork recruiting attendees each year to share in the fun.”

“Night at the Races is an informal event,” Ries said. “It is low-cost to attend. There is self-expression granted to each attending table as they bring their own decorations, food and beverages. Overall, it’s a low-stress, fun-filled evening with a chance to socialize and potentially take home some winnings.”

The Foundation hosts a range of events each year to raise funds for the hospital, while bringing the community together.

Nate James, Director of Development, Foundation and Communications, joined the Preston Memorial Hospital Senior Leadership team in October 2019. He has since participated in two foundation fundraising traditions including the Boutique Bazaar held in December and the most recent event, Night at the Races.

When reviewing the success of the January event, James said, “One of the first things I learned from working at Preston Memorial was the support and pride the community has for the hospital is outstanding. The participation and funds raised at the 2020 Night of the Races event exceeded my expectations. It is truly inspiring how much the small towns of Preston County support PMH and the Foundation.”

"The Preston Memorial Foundation is always exploring creative ways to raise funds," James said. "As I spend more time getting to know Prestonians, I will explore options to engage community members through out-of-the-box events. I am very thankful to all who attended the 2020 Night at the Races event, and I hope those guests will join us at the next PMHF event."
