August 11, 2019, Preston Memorial Hospital Employees volunteered their time to
help Food for Preston Unpack the Bus. For the event, volunteers unloaded and
sorted donated food items that will be used for the Food for Preston Backpack
Program. Enough supplies were collected to last the program 3 months. During
the 2018-2019 school year, the Backpack Program provided weekend meals to over
360 students.
On
August 20, 2019, Melissa Lockwood, PMH President & CEO, presented a check for
$1000 to Tammy Laney, Coordinator of the Food for Preston Backpack Program, on
behalf of PMH employees. In 2013, PMH administration proposed that employees
donate money to Food for Preston’s Backpack Program in exchange for a gently
used hospital computer.
“Employees
love supporting the community through this cause and have given nearly $4,000
to the program to date,” said Lockwood. “Throughout the year, we do this
computer donation program as well as many food drives to support Food for
Preston.”
