Mon Health System Celebrates Donate Life Month

Posted Date: 4/1/2024
Mon Health System is celebrating April’s Donate Life Month and joining the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) to raise awareness about organ, tissue, and cornea donation, and to inspire individuals to register to be an organ donor.

Nationally, more than 100,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant, including 2,500 people in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Someone is added to the transplant waiting list every 10 minutes and at least 17 will die each day without receiving the transplant they so desperately need. Despite the pressing need, a significant number of people remain unregistered as organ and tissue donors.

“At Mon Health System, we are uniquely positioned to not only tend to the health of our patients, but to inspire our community to be mindful of wellness in all aspects of life,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “The more people we can inspire to become organ donors, the better we can further our mission of enhancing the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time.”

Hospitals across Mon Health System are hosting flag raising ceremonies in April to recognize Donate Life Month. The ceremonies will take place at the flag in front of each facility on the dates below:

Tuesday, April 9 at 1PM: Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall
Tuesday, April 16 at 1:30PM: Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood
Wednesday, April 17 at 11:30AM: Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown
Thursday, April 18 at Noon: Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston

Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race, or medical history. Individuals are encouraged to talk with family and friends about registering as a donor. One organ donor can save up to eight lives and a tissue donor can improve the lives of more than 100 others. To sign up, visit CORE.org/register.
