The Recovery Care Program at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital was formed in June 2021 and provides the patients of Preston County with vital resources to utilize in their recovery journey.

“I have a special place in my heart for the people of the Preston County area. Assisting my community with finding recovery keeps me motivated,” said Jessica Myers, Care Manager for the Recovery Care Program. “The future for our community depends on the help and compassion we show today.”

A person can discuss treatment and referral options with their primary care physician, but most often patients enter the program due to an emergency room visit. In the Emergency Department at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, patients are assessed for substance use disorder. At that time, a Peer Recovery Coach will help the patient decide their treatment options and refer them appropriately. Options typically include an inpatient 28-day program, detoxification program, or medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which is offered at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital.

The first treatment stage in the Recovery Care Program offers group therapy, weekly counseling, and community-based meetings. Amber Snyder, Licensed Clinical Therapist, also assists patients with recovery planning and offers one on one counseling. Currently, there are 20 patients in the program, and they can participate as long as needed. Throughout their recovery, the treatment team supports patients by connecting them with other local resources to aid in their success. Dr. Lola Burke, Family Practitioner at Mon Health Primary Care in Fellowsville, is the Medical Director for the program and treats patients for their healthcare needs including addiction.

“We want to ensure a person has as much support as possible in their recovery,” explained Myers. “We are so lucky to have Dr. Burke, she is compassionate and empathetic to our patients which is so important in providing treatment.”

As the Recovery Care Program becomes an important part of the healthcare services delivered locally at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, the hope is that it will provide, “Hope, Connection, and Opportunity to Change.”

“I am proud of the team surrounding this Recovery Care Program. They built this from the ground up. We have the support of our Board and Medical Staff and are doing what our community asks us to do, offer needed services locally, said Melissa Lockwood, CAO at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “This Program is just one more opportunity to improve the lives of the people we serve.”
