Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Advances Surgical Care with Robotics
Posted Date: 12/13/2023
Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital continues to advance surgical care and bring lasting benefits to patients through robotics offerings.
Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital has grown its robotics program with the Da Vinci Xi and Intuitive Hub, increasing access to advanced healthcare in Preston County and allowing for better patient outcomes post-surgery.
The first robotic procedure at the critical access hospital was on October 9, 2023. Since then, Dr. Randy Hofius, General Surgeon and Robotician, has performed robotic procedures of all kinds, including hernia repairs, appendectomies, hemicolectomy, and many more.
“We are advancing care in Kingwood so that our patients can have surgery close to home instead of needing to travel elsewhere,” said Dr. Randy Hofius. “The implementation of the robotics program is a testament to the dedication we have for providing the best, most updated care to our patients, and we will continue to strive for excellence in this area.”
The hospital’s latest robotic addition, the Intuitive Hub, was implemented in early October. The Intuitive Hub has the capacity to connect surgeons from around the world with its telepresence feature, allowing the operating physician to interact with remote observers during all parts of a case, from the first steps of setup to the placement of the final stitch.
“Finding innovative ways to make the highest quality care more accessible to our local patients is at the forefront of our mission,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital. “The robotics program at Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital is a prime example of what it looks like to build a service from the ground up based on the ever-evolving national healthcare landscape and local patient needs, and we are proud to be able to better serve our patients close to home.”
Currently, both Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood and Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown feature the Intuitive Hub, allowing for a streamlined form of communication and collaboration on robotic procedures. Mon Health Robotics is the first in West Virginia to offer this type of communications advancement for surgery.
“The integration of the robotic systems across Mon Health System allow for us to remain at the forefront of medical advancements and provide continued outstanding care to our patients,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “We will continue to integrate new technologies as they become available so that we may further enhance the health of the communities we serve.”
