Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital achieves 5-star CMS rating

Posted Date: 2/18/2020
Hospitals making up Mon Health System have been awarded top ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2020, with Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital receiving a five-star rating, one of only three in West Virginia.

Each year CMS assigns hospital ratings ranging from one to five stars summarizing a variety of measures reflecting common conditions treated at hospitals including heart attacks, pneumonia and more. The comprehensive hospital rating demonstrates the performance of a hospital in comparison to other health care facilities.

There are seven quality components taken into consideration by CMS when a hospital ranking is designated including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging.

“We are honored to receive five stars from CMS,” said Melissa Lockwood, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital President and CEO. “This award is a direct reflection of the quality of care delivered to our patients.”

“We offer a wide range of services to the communities we serve, and we take pride in providing excellent care close to home. We are most honored to provide healthcare in our community, caring for our family, friends and neighbors each day,” Lockwood concluded.
Mon Health Medical Center and Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial also received honors from CMS in 2020. Mon Health Medical Center received a four-star rating, while Stonewall received three stars.

“We are incredibly proud of our team members for the recent recognition from CMS and their commitment to safety, clinical excellence and delivery of an exceptional experience every time,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO at Mon Health System.

In addition to the top CMS ratings, Mon Health System has been nationally and regionally recognized for excellence in quality within the past year from organizations including U.S. News and World Report, The Leapfrog Group, The Joint Commission, The American College of Cardiology, Healthgrades, Baby-Friendly USA and more.
