Mark Combs Awarded Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer Certification

Mark Combs, Chief Technology Officer, Vandalia Health

Mon Health System is pleased to announce that Mark Combs, Chief Technology Officer of Vandalia Health, was awarded the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives’ (CHIME) Certified Healthcare CIO designation.

Launched in 2008 by CHIME, the Certified Healthcare CIO program is the only certification designed exclusively for leaders in health information technology. Currently, more than 800 healthcare CIOs in 23 countries have earned the certification, which represents one of the highest professional achievements in the industry.

“We are incredibly proud of Mark for earning this advanced certification. It demonstrates his commitment, knowledge, and experience in leading our organization in information technology,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health.

Mark has worked in the information technology field for over 25 years. He joined Mon Health System in 2021 where he served as CIO before transitioning to his current role with Vandalia Health to focus on technical infrastructure for both Mon Health System and CAMC.

“Healthcare is undergoing a massive transformation,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell Branzell, CHCIO. “We are shifting to a value-based environment, improving coordination across the continuum and striving to reduce costs. Health IT is critical to achieving these goals. CHCIO is a recognition that a CIO has the skills necessary to be a strategic leader in the organization.”

To achieve CHCIO status, candidates must have at least three years of experience in the position, participate in the programs and events that continue their education as an IT leader, and pass a rigorous examination. These qualifications ensure that the CIO is truly dedicated to ongoing education, an important characteristic in an industry where patients pay the price for becoming stagnant.

“Mark’s expertise and skills play an integral role in helping Vandalia Health better serve our patients. This designation reflects his deep understanding of information technology operations, and we congratulate him on this momentous achievement,” said Daniel Stross, Chief Information Officer of Vandalia Health.
