Posted Date: 3/20/2024
As the healthcare industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, women are playing an increasingly critical role in shaping its future. During Women’s History Month and year-round, Mon Health System celebrates the trailblazing women who lead the organization in driving innovation and improving patient outcomes.

The majority of Mon Health System’s leadership roles are maintained by women. Each of these women help empower a wide range of individuals, from employees, physicians, and nurses, to become the leaders of tomorrow.

As Chief Nursing Executive at Mon Health System, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Mon Health Medical Center, Dr. Krystal Atkinson has made a significant impact on elevating nursing practices, ensuring the safety of staff and patients, nurturing essential relationships with providers and community members, expanding the graduate nursing pipeline through the implementation of the Mon Scholars Program and, the partnership with the WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health.

Katie Davison, Chief Human Resources Officer at Mon Health System, has led integration and optimization efforts and continues to keep the organization focused on its culture and people. She has led the system in hiring more than 1,159 employees throughout 2023 and in its recent recognition as Best Place to Work in West Virginia as a part of WV Living Magazine’s Best of West Virginia Competition.

Melissa Lockwood currently serves as both Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital and Grafton City Hospital’s Chief Administrative Officer. Since starting at the Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in 1995, she has helped make significant strides in hospital quality and operations, including the opening of the new facility in 2015 and, most recently, the addition of the comprehensive infusion center serving Preston County.

Victoria Jones serves as the CEO of Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, a non-profit behavioral health hospital and affiliate of Mon Health System located in Clarksburg. Victoria has led the hospital since 2018 and works collaboratively to provide the highest quality, most comprehensive behavioral health services in Harrison County. Most recently, she has led the hospital in its opening of the acute adolescent unit.

Dr. Mary Edwards serves as Chief Medical Officer at Vandalia Health North and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Mon Health Medical Center. Dr Edwards leads system coordination of hospital-based medical affairs and Mon Health Medical Center clinical affairs.

Jeanette Lancaster, Executive Director of The Village at Heritage Point, has been with Mon Health for 27 years. She served as the Director of Sales and Marketing at The Village for two years before being named Executive Director in 2024. As the Executive Director, Jeanette is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of both residents and staff at The Village.

Luella Gunter, Executive Director of Philanthropy at Mon Health System, serves as the primary strategist for system advancement through fundraising and stewardship efforts. Luella has helped to raise $2.8 million in 2023, with over $500,000 going toward the Mon Health Medical Center Caring Cottages during the 2023 Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary Ball of the Year. She is already vigorously working on the event for 2024.

Karen Friggens serves as the Vice President of Mon Health Medical Group and led the development of the physician practice enterprise at Mon Health System, building a network of over 200 providers across 50 locations. With Karen’s direction and strategic leadership, Mon Health System is dedicated to being a provider-led care team to better serve our communities with greater access to healthcare and improved patient outcomes.

In addition to the influential women serving in leadership roles at the hospital level, Mon Health System’s Board of Directors also benefit from the knowledge and contributions of female leadership. Kimberly Moyers serves as Board Chair and Natalie Stone as Vice Chair at Mon Health Medical Center, Kathy McNeill as Vice Chair at Vandalia Health North, Dixie Yann as Vice Chair of Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital Board, Robin Poling as Chair and Kim Gum as Secretary and Treasurer of Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Board, Stephanie Stovash as Vice Chair of the Mon Health Medical Center Foundation Board, and Trella Greaser as Chair of the Mon Health Preston Memorial Foundation Board.

During Women’s History Month, we celebrate and commemorate the true difference that women across Mon Health System have made to enhance the health and wellness of the communities we serve. We are proud to be a community that inspires women in healthcare leadership, as well as encourage greater gender diversity and inclusion throughout the industry.
