Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital leads local efforts for breast cancer awareness and care expansion
Posted Date: 11/13/2025
Throughout October, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital joined forces with community partners, local schools and organizations across Preston County to raise awareness for breast cancer and promote preventive health education.
From pink bows adorning Main Street and South Price Street in Kingwood to a long-term partnership with Preston County schools to host “Pink Out” themed sports games, hospital staff and volunteers worked alongside community leaders to highlight the importance of early detection and regular screenings by participating in numerous community events throughout the month.
“Our efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month go beyond raising awareness — they’re about supporting the health and well-being of our entire community,” said Kim Liston, Community Programs Coordinator at Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “As a community hospital, our care is deeply personal. We live and work alongside the people we serve — our friends, families, and neighbors — and we’re committed to ensuring they have access to exceptional care and the best outcomes possible, right here at home. Early detection and prevention are a vital part of that commitment, and we’re proud to partner with local organizations and leaders to encourage women to schedule their mammograms.”
“These events reflect the heart of our mission — to care for our community both inside and outside the walls of our hospital,” said Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer at Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “Our team is deeply committed to advancing breast cancer awareness and ensuring the people of Preston County have access to the resources and screenings they need to protect their health, close to home.”
As part of Vandalia Health’s ongoing investment in expanding access to cancer care, Mon Preston Memorial Hospital recently broke ground on the construction of a dedicated space for its infusion and oncology center, bringing additional treatment services and technology to the community. The expansion will enhance coordination with Vandalia Health oncology experts, ensuring patients can receive world-class care and advanced treatment options without leaving Preston County.
“As part of Vandalia Health, our patients benefit from the expertise of oncology specialists across the system while still receiving coordinated care close to home,” said Michael Craig, MD, Medical Oncologist, Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “That collaboration ensures patients have access to leading treatments, clinical expertise and a full continuum of care without having to travel far from their families and support systems.”
Throughout October and beyond, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital continues to honor the courage of breast cancer survivors, support those currently in treatment and advocate for early detection and prevention as the most effective tools in saving lives.
