Posted Date: 3/30/2020

Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that Michelle Stanton has joined the senior leadership team as the Director of Quality Improvement Services. In her position, Stanton is directly responsible for the oversight of quality and process improvement, medical staff affairs, and infection prevention for PMH as well as indirectly responsible for risk management.  She will work in collaboration with other Quality and Risk Directors across Mon Health System to develop a unified approach to Quality, Risk and Process Improvement.

Stanton is a registered nurse with more than 36 years of healthcare experience, fostering high quality, patient-centered care.  The last fourteen years of her career focused on the coordination and oversight of quality, risk management, patient safety, accreditation and regulatory compliance as well as service excellence activities.

Prior to coming to PMH, Stanton held several positions at Davis Medical Center which included Chief Quality Officer/Risk Manager since 2013. In addition, Stanton has held nursing positions at Mon Health Medical Center, Heartland of Preston County (Pineridge) and our very own Preston Memorial Hospital at the onset of her career.  Additionally, she is the President of the Healthcare Quality Association of West Virginia.

Among her many accomplishments at Davis Medical Center, Stanton led efforts to achieve the West Virginia Hospital Association Commitment to Excellence Gold Honors Award 2016-2019. Starting in 2012, she spearheaded the patient safety program that focused on reducing Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC) to zero, which resulted in a number one ranking in the state of WV for lowest HAC's in 2015.  Stanton also led the implementation of an antibiotic stewardship program that significantly reduced antibiotic usage, while yielding significant cost savings to the organization. Additionally, she successfully developed and implemented a Patient and Family Advisory Council.

"I am thrilled Michelle chose to come back and work in her native Preston County.  Her tenured and accomplished career has taken her from a bedside nurse to an executive, responsible for the most monumental and strategic focus for any healthcare organization, quality improvement services.  We are very fortunate to have Michelle on our team, directing the important initiatives driving our performance excellence, "said Melissa Lockwood, President & CEO of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital.

Stanton has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salem International University where she graduated with honors Summa Cum Laude.  She also graduated from Fairmont State University with an Associate of Science in Nursing and was part of the West Virginia Hospital Association Leadership Academy inaugural class in April 2019.
