Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital honors Compton with DAISY Award for nursing excellence

Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital proudly recognizes Ashley Compton, RN, Emergency Department, as its latest recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Compton was nominated by a patient’s family member who praised her calm demeanor, compassion and exceptional clinical expertise during a medical emergency.
"Ashley was instrumental in caring for my mother-in-law when she had to visit the ER," the nomination stated. "She remained calm, showed compassion and demonstrated strong clinical skills … She worked quickly to assess the situation and adjust her medications and oxygen apparatus with confidence and ease. She communicated what was happening and what to expect next. She was supportive of us as well. We can't thank her enough! We are so thankful she was there that day."
The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through clinical expertise, compassionate care and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, families and fellow caregivers.
"Ashley’s ability to remain calm under pressure, provide expert clinical care and support patients and families during some of their most difficult moments reflects the compassionate, patient-centered care we strive to provide every day,” said Jennifer Nestor, RN, BSN, MHA, Chief Nursing Officer, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital. “We are proud to recognize Ashley with this well-deserved honor."
The DAISY Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. During his hospitalization, his family was deeply touched by the extraordinary compassion and clinical skill demonstrated by his nurses. They created The DAISY Foundation as a lasting way to recognize nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of patients and families.
