Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is proud to honor Shyla Bleigh, RN, as The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recipient.
The DAISY Award is awarded to nurses biannually at the hospital and is a part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize and thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide. Nominations are sent in by patients, families, and coworkers and compiled to award selected recipients.
“This award means a lot to me knowing that the care I provide means a lot to each of my patients. I’m forever grateful for the positive feedback I receive from my patients,” said Bleigh. “Before my mom passed away when I was only 10, I always told her I’d become a nurse for her, so being a nurse means a lot to me. I tell a lot of my patients about my story when they compliment me and tell me that I’m an attentive nurse because I think it’s important that I share my story to let them know something about me as I get to know more about them.”
Bleigh has been a nurse at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital since December 2019, and became a registered nurse in May 2023. Because of her acts of selflessness and commitment to go above and beyond for her patients, Bleigh was nominated and selected as a recipient for this award.
“It is always an honor to present our extraordinary nurses with a DAISY Award,” said Kevin Stalnaker, Chief Administrative Officer for Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “Shyla is an excellent example of the selfless care given by our nurses on a daily basis.”
Nurses can be nominated by anyone who has been affected by their care – patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff – anyone who has experienced or observed extraordinary, compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
