Vandalia Health Mon Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is expanding access to advanced breast care services with the introduction of ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, providing patients in the region with a minimally invasive diagnostic option close to home.

The first procedure was recently completed at the hospital by William Burns, MD, marking an important step forward in enhancing local access to breast health services. Dr. Burns, who recently transitioned his medical practice from Morgantown to Weston, specializes in endoscopic, general and minimally invasive surgery.

An ultrasound-guided breast biopsy is a procedure used to evaluate suspicious areas in the breast by using ultrasound imaging to guide a needle for tissue sampling. This method allows for precise targeting of abnormalities while minimizing discomfort and recovery time compared to more invasive surgical biopsies.
