9th Annual Gobble Gallop set for Thanksgiving Day

Before the turkey hits the oven, lace up your running shoes and join the flock at the 9th Annual Vandalia Health Mon Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Gobble Gallop. This year’s 5K walk/run race will take place at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, at WVU Jackson’s Mill. Participants will notice a new route this year, featuring two scenic laps around the upper end of the mill, with the race starting near the livestock barn.

“The Gobble Gallop has become a holiday tradition for families across Lewis County,” said Lisa Songer, Chief Administrative Officer of Vandalia Health Mon Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “We’re excited to bring the community together once again to celebrate health, wellness and a fun start to Thanksgiving morning.”

The annual Gobble Gallop supports the hospital’s ongoing efforts to create a healthier Lewis County by engaging community partners and encouraging year-round physical activity. Those interested in helping organize or coordinate one of the county’s community runs are encouraged to contact Mon Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Outreach Department at 304-517-8612.

  • Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. – Ugly Sweater 5K at Jane Lew Park
  • Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 11:45 p.m. – Year to Year 5K on the SJMH campus
  • Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at 10 a.m. – Groundhog Walk/Run on the SJMH campus
  • Sunday, March 14, 2026, at noon – Snake Chase in Ireland, W.Va.
